Cessna 310 Series
Produced by Cessna between 1954 and 1980, the Cessna 310 is a six-seat, low-wing, twin-engined monoplane. The aircraft has the capacity for one crew member and four passengers. The empty weight is 2850 lb (1293 kg) and the gross weight is 4600 lb (2087 kg). Cruise speed is 178 knots (205 mph, 330 km/h) and the maximum speed is 190 knots (220 mph, 350 km/h). The rate of climb is 1700 ft/min (8.6 m/s). The 310 was the first twin-engined aircraft that Cessna put into production after World War II.
During its years of production 6321 Cessna 310s were built. Variant models include the Cessna Model 310, 310A, 310B, 310C, 310D, 310E, 310F, 310G, 310H, 310I, 310J, 310K, 310L, 310M, 310N, 310P, Cessna 310Q, Cessna 310R, T310Q, T310R, 310S, 320 Skyknight, 320A Skyknight, 320B Skyknight, 320C Skyknight, 320D Executive Skyknight, 320E Executive Skyknight, 320F Executive Skyknight, L-27A, L-27B, U-3A, U3-B, Riley 65, Riley 310R, Riley Super 310, Riley Rocket, and Riley Turbostream. The sleek modern lines of the Cessna 310 were backed up by features such as engine exhaust thrust augmenter tubs and the storage of all fuel in tip tanks. In 1959, the 310C featured upgraded 260 hp Continental IO-470-D engines. The 310D featured swept back vertical tail surfaces and the 310F had an extra cabin window added.
Developed from the 310F, the 320 Skyknight features turbocharged TSIO-470-B engines and a fourth cabin side window. The 310F featured the upswept stabilatip tip tanks. The 310K replaced the rear two windows with a single window. The 310Q and turbocharged T310Q featured a redesigned rear cabin with skylight window. Production of the Cessna 310 ended in 1980.
Many air taxi firms choose the Cessna 310. Some advantages of the aircraft over its contemporaries were its speed, operating costs, and after market modifications such as the Robertson STOL kits. The Piper Aztec, Beechcraft Baron, Piper Seneca, and some models of the Aero Commander were competitors of the aircraft. The 310 was often selected by the US Air Force as a light utility aircraft for transport and administrative support. Today the aircraft is operated by private individuals and companies, as well as air charter companies and small feeder airlines.
