    Cessna 140 Aircraft Series Information

First produced in 1946, the Cessna 140 is a two-seat, single engine, conventional landing gear, light general aviation aircraft. The 140 has the capacity for one crew member and one passenger. The empty weight is 890 lb (404 kg) and gross weight is 1450 lb (658 kg). The aircraft have a fuel capacity of 25 US gallons. The cruise speed is 91 knots (105 mph, 169 km/h), the stall speed is 39 knots (45 mph, 72 km/h), and the maximum speed is 109 knots (125 mph, 201 km/h). The Cessna 120 and 140 were produced from 1946 to 1950 with 7664 aircraft built.

The original Cessna Model 140 was powered by a Continental C-85-12 or C-85-12F horizontally-opposed, air cooled, four cylinder piston engine of 85 hp. Optional engines include the 90 hp Continental C-90-12F or C-90-14F or the 108 hp Lycoming O-235-C1. The 140 has a metal fuselage and fabric wings with metal control surfaces.

Introduced in 1949, the Cessna 140A has a standard 90 hp Continental C-90-12F or C-90-14F engine. Optional engines include the 85 hp Continental C-85-12, C-18-12F, or C-18-14F. Aluminum covered wings and a single strut replace the dual "V" struts and jury struts fitted on earlier models. Wheel extenders were no longer necessary because the spring steel gear was moved 4 inches forward.

An economy version of the 140 produced at the same time was the Cessna 120. The 120 had the same engine as the 140, but did not have wing flaps. Common modifications to the 140 include "metalized" wings and installation of landing gear extenders.
