Bellanca Citabria Series Aircraft Information
The Citabria is based on the American Champion 7 Series Champ. The main body in the Citabria series is welded metal tubing with the outer fuselage made of wooden longerons and formers and are covered with fabric as are the wings and tail surfaces. The wings of the Citabria feature aluminum ribs and are strut braced. At the time of its introduction, the series was the only aircraft commercially produced in the US that was certified for aerobatics.
The variations in the series include the original model, the American Champion 7ECA Aurora Citabria Standard. Though it came standard with a Continental O-200-A engine, Champion started offering the option of a Lycoming O-235-C1engine that later became the standard. The American Champion 7GCAA Citabria Adventure also known as the Citabria 150 or Citabria "A" Package, features a Lycoming O-320-A2B engine and spring steel main gear legs. The 7GCAA Ultimate Adventure model uses a Superior Vantage O-360-A3A2 engine and has a composite propeller. In 1965, the American Champion 7GCBC, also known as Citabria 150s or Citabria "C" Package, was released featuring the same engine, wings, and gear legs as the 7GCAA. The differences between the two are the 7GCBC has an increased wingspan and carrier wing flaps. Later, a Lycoming O-320-B2B engine was added. The 7GCBC High Country Explorer comes with larger wheels and a Super Vantage O-360-A3A2 engine. The American Champion 7KCAB Citabria or Citabria "B" Package was introduced in 1968 with changes to the engine oil system, the fuel system, and a more powerful engine to extend inverted flight. The final model in the series is the Citabria Pro. It was never put into production. The 7GCBC had military uses in observation.
