Beechcraft Beechjet Series Aircraft Information

A series of small, twin engine corporate jet aircraft, the 400 series is known by several names. Originally developed by Mitsubishi, Beech Aircraft continued manufacturing later becoming part of Hawker Beechcraft. All models are expanded from the original Mitsubishi MU-300 Diamond that was created to take the Mitsubishi MU-2 a step further. The Mitsubishi MU-300-10 Diamond II expanded on the original and around 100 of the models were produced. The MU-300 Diamond was meant to be the top of the line corporate jet that seats eight passengers and two pilots. It uses two {Pratt & Whitney} Canada JT15D engines that are mounted at the rear of the fuselage.

Once the production rights were purchased by Beechcraft, the model was renamed the Beechcraft Beechjet 400 with the varying modesl including the Beechjet 400 and the Beechjet 400A. In addition to the 100 Diamond series produced, the Beechjet 400 had 54 models manufactured. The next model was the Beechcraft Beechjet 400A also known as the Model 400A, Raytheon Beechjet 400A, Raytheon Hawker 400XP, Raytheon Hawker 400, and then the Hawker Beechcraft Hawker 400XP. The Model 400T is the military version of the 400A. The US Air Force renamed it the T-1 Jayhawk. Over 593 of the civil series were built and 193 military models were manufactured.

Improvements during the series include more fuel efficient engines, an all glass flight deck, and a more aerodynamic shape.
